Dark Matters

The material universe is a small portion of a set of dimensions that beings with wider perception than humans can experience. As may be observed in lower life forms who exhibit behaviors that are almost entirely instinctive, there is insufficient room for all of the protocols they follow to be encoded in their DNA, which basically acts as an interface between them and their support infrastructures in hidden dimensions. Similarly, each human being (according to pleasure) strives to prove his autonomy or reliance through evolutionary or involutionary behaviors. Yet, he is connected with archetypal (parasitic, saprophytic, or symbiotic) organisms and intelligences who afford him constant invisible support, even as he sets out to convince the world of his miraculous qualities; much like the stage magician relies on his props, devices, and assistants to create entertaining legerdemain.
Someone skilled in prestidigitation can follow many of the movements of the illusionist, as someone sitting in the front row of a ballet can see the fly space above the stage much better than can someone seated further back. And, according to psychic ability and intimacy with subtle mechanics, a spiritually developed person can see more of the hidden areas of the universe as can a human whose place in the world is to take his stake and compete through displacement. This is natural, since someone with more refined motives is likely to do less damage in the more fragile or influential zones of the cosmos. Thus, someone with greater insight as to how things work makes better use of his time getting together with others of like perceptions, goals, and skills than sitting in the front row of a magic show, shouting out spoilers until asked to leave.
Anyone who has learned something of personal value from observing the more obscure habits of the world or who has directly perceived its seldom seen basements, attics, and secret passageways tends to be less and less explicit about his discoveries, and more methodical and discreet. When Lord Shiva says that the true religion is conducted in private and small groups by people whose yoga has made them psychic enough to be effective in this pursuit, He suggests that their are trade secrets that await the true initiate of the Mysteries. Most hidden knowledge is recorded somewhere, but cannot be realized without practice under the guidance of the experienced and access to the observations of other students. But, for those formulas which have a potentially superior value owing to their rarity, beauty, or appropriateness to a certain time frame, more careful secrecy is necessary to preserve the advantages of the deserving insiders.
So, for one who has become enlightened or developed beyond the ordinary impulses of the audience member or end user, discretion becomes as necessary for him as a darkroom does for a professional photographer. We need fear little that someone like Batman is up to no good. Yet, what he does must remain hidden from the despoilers whom he mounts a resistance. As well, a good guy with special gifts in the world outside the comic book still needs to conceal many of his harmless activities so that he himself may avoid harm. Nobody sane walks down the street with a transparent briefcase, especially if it contains valuables. Successful creative people rely even more on supernatural power than do more impoverished religious fanatics who extol its virtues without ceasing. But, since carrying signs that promise doom or redemption to any who will subscribe to a fantasy, they work with a more sophisticated set of tools. And, since their motivations are not dictated by superficial politics, their pursuits must come to them as a result of true, deep affinity.
Though a reputedly great deity bound by exoteric mass imaginings often seems interested solely in perpetuating the best of what was, and managing energy in a basically quantitative manner, the more specialized deities help man to pursue his diverse interests, rather than letting him fall into the net of normative, repetitive mediocrity. But, as a computer client requires but one internet service provider, a creative person usually relies upon only one deity for most things, although he may be free to approach other gods or expert spirits in the event that special knowledge or intervention is required for his projects to move forward or receive proper maintenance.
While Cox Cable may be the most superior provider, this in no way should assure the doom of others, as their services may better fit the needs of numerous clients. Still, there may be peer pressure. Perhaps in some communities, demoralization regularly comes the way of him who refuses to subscribe to Cox. The customer requiring another network may have to conceal his preferences. And, about those virtues of the service he does find most useful, he must be quiet, except with others who tolerate or embrace the same provider. Thus, while fashion or convenience may dictate allegiance for many, genuine creative requirements govern the concerns of others. Also, as interests become more diverse in some people, they seek more specific options. Someone who feels that the neighborhood public school is adequate in childhood may yet seek a more specialized learning environment than his former classmates when his life's plans necessitate a narrower focus.
In the world of esoteric religion, since those with psychic abilities require specialized learning accommodations, personal persistence is usually better spent acquiring information than disseminating it. When focusing on a long term goal, however, some form of definitive behavioral streamlining is necessary. Curiosity about ones own likes gives way to an interest in how to facilitate better adaptive behavior among the younger of ones community. To spawn cooperation and galvanize affinities, those with real experience find themselves in a position to share what they have experienced. If those with questions may be able to find them, this may ensure the survival of a greater number of authentically spiritual people, that is, those who see the value of both independent inquiry and respect for valuably cohesive conventions.
By authentic I mean those who understand the reasoning behind austere behaviors so often associated with all sorts of behaviors, from soldier to monk. As members of a tribe may be expected to wear a certain garb at each stage of life, style becomes not only a support of social identity but of station in life within a group. But, an artist or scientist cannot afford to be defined by custom or perception. Someone who choses to become a vegetarian may not need to be a teetotaler. Yet, the pressure of fashion and collective mentality being what they are, if you are a vegetarian and someone sees you raising a glass of wine, an impertinent comment is sometimes more than likely.
So, the trick for an advanced student of Creation is to understand the value of behavior in context, not just to conform to a model in order to be more attractive to an little known shepherd. When the latter happens, a person usually slumps into gloomy habits that degenerate into dissatisfaction, frustration, resentment. The entrenched pseudo-expert reaches the bitter default rut of demoralizing people of real talent or enthusiasm, and trying to codify the most demoralizing by laws still lurking at the bottom of the moral barrel. Ultimately, a growing, gratuitous abuse of status necessitates the egoist's removal from a healthy institution who can no longer absorb the toxic influence of the off key prima donna. This is an ongoing process in magickal education as the more insincere students fall away into disaffected sorcery upon failing to make everyone their slave. The longer it takes to winnow out or evict such clods, of course, the worse for the young of the school or society, or the elders, for that matter.
In this observation we can see the psychological inventiveness of using the witchy image as a typifying idiom: "Go ahead! Be a bad ass!" Or, "No, Moses, you can't leave!" It is best to wear lots of black and pretend to do creepy things if one wishes to have some mechanism by which one can escape the hypocrites, I suppose. I hope you have enjoyed these few minutes with Andy Looney, aspiring commentator to the Addams Family.
